7th and 8th graders created self-portraits by tracing photographs on transparency sheets, 
adding acrylic to the back, and layering it on top of a painted background.













January/April 2018

Middle School students talked about the historic art style of Futurism and similar uses of motion and movement in art through time.  They then used moveable figures to create their own work that depicts the idea of motion.

6th grade students explored bas-relief and non-objective design with colorful interpretations.

Middle School students created people in motion through wire, plaster gauze, and paint.

Middle School students created masks with plaster gauze and chose their own expressive ways of finishing them with a variety of materials.  Here are just a few.






November 2015

Middle School artists studied the work of Sonia Delunay then created their own circle themed compositions.  Using what they discovered from the previous color mixing exercise, they combined interesting colors to create strong movement.

Middle School artists used the primary colors 
of red, yellow, and blue to create a wonderful range of new colors.

September 2015


Middle School artists studied the meaning and designs of Egyptian symbols.  They then created their own interpretation in their choice of  two-dimensional media. What excellent individual expressions!

8th graders had the opportunity to try reduction printing which uses multiple colors on one image.

Students explored a Mayan poem in Ms. Nicola's Language Arts class. They then illustrated the poems in the media of their choice.

6th-8th graders looked at Surrealist art by Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, and M.C. Escher.  These artists were inspired by psychology, the subconscious, dreams, and juxtaposition.  They then used these ideas in their own Surrealist collages.

5th-8th graders sculpted big mouth creatures, monsters, and friends.




















Sixth and Seventh graders looked at the work of 
Frank Stella. They then created their own sculptural paintings with dimension.












Seventh grade explored color, value, and transparency with chalk pastels.













Sixth grade created these sculptures with 
repetition of shape and variety of size.








6th & 8th graders studied three-dimensional shading to create these 
"Impossible Stacking Forms"











Sixth graders used the color wheel, overlapping, and transparancy to 
create these vibrant paintings.








6th-8th graders created dynamic self-portraits by using a photo of themselves.  After cutting the photo in half, students did an excellent job of matching value (lights, mediums, and darks) in pencil, then added their own creative ideas with a variety of materials.
