After reading Big Bug, 3rd-5th graders used changes in 
size, proportion, and space to create different views of one scene.










April 2018
4th and 5th graders used their knowledge of one-point perspective and Surrealism to create these dynamic works of art.  Subsequent creative writing about the works told fascinating stories!

5th graders explored value and color with paint to create these dynamic cubes.

5th graders learned about the history of Plains Ledger art and contemporary artist Delores Purdy Corcoran.  They then created their own personalized ledger art to reflect their own lives.

4th graders learned about the petroglyph She Who Watches in the Columbia Gorge and the work of local artist Lillian Pitt.  They then created with own artworks inspired by She Who Watches.

2nd-5th graders looked at Paul Klee's Cat and Bird 
and created their own colorful cats with oil pastel and watercolor.

2nd-5th graders learned about the tradition of Day of the Dead / Dia de los Muertos.  
Some students honored loved ones from their own lives.

4th-5th graders explored radial symmetry in nature 
and around the world then created a wonderful variety of designs.

4th-8th graders explored sculpting 
in clay by making bobbleheads!












February/March 2016

5th graders looked at the playful work of street artist Barry McGee.  
They then combined geometric patterns and cartoon style faces in their own unique ways.

4th & 5th graders watched the movie Inside Out, then created their own interpretations of emotions through emoji designs.

Notan is a Japanese term for "light-dark" in design. 
Students created expanding square design using this concept.
